Five ways to Stand Out in Your College Application
Take challenging classes in highschool
Colleges do not just look at your GPA, they also look at your transcripts. They see the level of difficulty of the classes you have taken as a measure of academic rigor you can handle. While this varies by class availability at your school, you should strive to show academic merit and intention to challenge yourself.
Be active in extracurricular activities
Not just extracurriculars, but leadership in them looks great on college applications. Colleges believe that consistent participation in clubs, sports, or any extracurricular activity shows that you have creativity, innovation, leadership skills, and commitment .
Work hard on your ACT/SAT tests
Your ACT and/or SAT scores play a major role in the review of your application. They can act as filter for different kinds of schools. Please devote plenty of time to prepare for the ACT or SAT by starting in your sophomore or junior year, and give yourself enough time to retake your test if necessary.
Write charming and thoughtful essays
Your personal statements and essays are a chance for you to stand out. Essays humanize your application and put a face to the GPA, test scores, and activities. The best college admissions essays are captivating, engaging, and creative.
